New System Upgrade to the CK-12 FlexBook Platform

Dear CK-12 Community

Greetings! In an effort to continually evolve and improve our system we’ve launched a new version of our FlexBooks System, which represents a significant milestone in our journey.

The following flagship features are now supported in our application:

  • Print Preview from Editor
  • Live Media Support to embed and view videos
  • Integrated metadata for enhanced searching
  • Symbol Editor for Math Symbols
  • Anonymous PDF access (no need to sign-in to view a PDF or a book
  • Search improvements (performance, highlighted texts).

Currently, users can access the following books with more titles coming soon:

  • Earth Science
  • Life Science
  • Biology
  • Basic Physics
  • People’s Physics Book
  • Engineering – An Introduction for High School
  • Engineering – Problem Solving with MatLab
  • Algebra I
  • Chemistry
  • Geometry
  • Calculus
  • Trigonometry

Additionally, we have switched to LaTeX for our PDF generation, which means when you print your book you will notice a cleaner layout and a better representation of charts, graphs, and equations. While we are excited to provide you with content it is by no means perfect, and we know we have more work to do. We are diligently working to resolve formatting issues such as images and tables that are not perfectly aligned with text, inconsistencies with image sizes, and inaccuracies in our math content due to content reformatting. We’re also working to improve the readability of the font on our online reader in response to user feedback.

We welcome any and all feedback and take all comments seriously as the success of CK-12’s FlexBooks model will be driven by user feedback and contributions. Our standards-aligned FlexBooks enable quick content updates and edits. Please send your change requests, comments, and suggestions to info@ck12.org.

We look forward to working with users around the globe to further develop our content, platform and dynamically change the nature of education.

Thank you,
