"Quit wasting your time playing games!" Ever hear that before? Well, if you have you weren't around the Center for Game Science at the University of Washington. They have a whole different take on the value of games. They know gamers demonstrate mad skills that go way beyond playing around!

No Duh's and Head Scratchers

If you need help scratching a mental itch, use the resources below:

  1. Why is it important for researchers to know the 3D structure of proteins involved with diseases? Do you think this is more important for some diseases than others? Why or why not?
  2. Are you surprised gamers were able to solve a problem in only 3 weeks that had stumped scientists with the most sophisticated technology for years? Why or why not? What does this suggest about the abilities of the human brain compared to current levels of technology?
  3. Many games today require players to respond to imaginary 3D environments they see in 2D. Do you think this improves their ability to picture 3D environments when they are not gaming?
