How do you make a cell with half the DNA? Meiosis. This allows cells to have half the number of chromosomes, so two of these cells can come back together to form a new organism with the complete number of chromosomes. This process not only helps produce gametes, it also ensures genetic variation. This section describes the phases of meiosis.
This video helps you understand gametes, zygotes, and haploid/diploid numbers.
The phases of meiosis, Meiosis I and Meiosis II, are explored in details.
Lesson plan is web based. It contains an outline, vocabulary, diagrams, checking for understanding, guided practice, independent practice, and evaluation. Resources for the lesson are available as web links towards the end.
A list of student-submitted discussion questions for Meiosis.
Learn about some of the problems which occur when meiosis doesn't go as planned.
This study guide compares asexual and sexual reproduction and also looks at meiosis, genetic variation, and life cycles.
These flashcards help you study important terms and vocabulary from Meiosis.
