# 7.6: Circle Sums

Difficulty Level: At Grade Created by: CK-12

Circle Sums - Solve for Values of Unknowns

Teacher Notes

Circle Sums show three-by-three grids of circles that contain either letters that represent unknown quantities or numbers. Arrows point to sums of rows and columns. For example, in Row 1, \begin{align*}A + C + B =14\end{align*}, and in Column 1, \begin{align*}A + A + B = 17\end{align*}. Students use grid relationships to figure out the values of the letters. Each grid contains three different letters and one number. Note: There is often more than one solution path.

Solutions

1. \begin{align*}A = 4, \ B = 3, \ C = 5\end{align*}
2. \begin{align*}A = 6, \ B = 4, \ C = 8\end{align*}
3. \begin{align*}A = 5, \ B = 6, \ C = 3\end{align*}
4. \begin{align*}A = 7, \ B = 8, \ C = 6\end{align*}

The arrows point to the sum of each row or column. Figure out the value of each letter.
