# 6.4: Circles and Arrows

Difficulty Level: At Grade Created by: CK-12

Circles and Arrows - Solve for Unknowns

Teacher Notes

Circles and Arrows show grids in which circles contain numbers and letters that represent unknown quantities. Arrows point to sums of rows and columns. For example, in the top row, 6+A+B=13\begin{align*}6 + A + B =13\end{align*}. In the first column, 6+B+B=16\begin{align*}6 + B + B = 16\end{align*}. Students use the grid relationships to figure out the values of the letters. Each grid contains three different letters and one number.

Solutions

1. D=4, E=1, F=10\begin{align*}D = 4, \ E = 1, \ F = 10\end{align*}
2. G=7, H=3, J=6\begin{align*}G = 7, \ H = 3, \ J = 6\end{align*}
3. K=8, M=4, N=3\begin{align*}K = 8, \ M = 4, \ N = 3\end{align*}
4. P=6, R=2, S=8\begin{align*}P = 6, \ R = 2, \ S = 8\end{align*}
5. Q=5, T=7, U=4\begin{align*}Q = 5, \ T = 7, \ U =4\end{align*}
6. V=3, W=9, Z=5\begin{align*}V = 3, \ W = 9, \ Z = 5\end{align*}
