  • 1.

    The Real Number System

This chapter reviews the basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as well as the order of operations.

  • 2.

    Linear Equations and Inequalities

This chapter introduces solving equations and inequalities in one variable as well as absolute value equations and inequalities.

  • 3.

    Functions and Graphs

This chapter introduces the concept of a function and explores linear and quadratic functions.

  • 4.

    Linear Functions

This chapter introduces the equation of a line and how to graph a line directly from its equation. This chapter also explores parallel and perpendicular lines and applications of linear functions.

  • 5.

    Systems of Equations and Inequalities

This chapter introduces systems of equations and inequalities. It also explores applications of both systems of linear equations and systems of linear inequalities.

  • 6.

    Exponents and Exponential Functions

This chapter introduces exponents and exponential functions. Properties of exponents, exponential equations, and applications of exponential functions are also explored.

  • 7.

This chapter introduces polynomials and how to perform operations with polynomials. This chapter also explores factoring extensively, including the connections between factoring, polynomial long division, and graphs of polynomial functions.

  • 8.

    Rational Expressions and Rational Functions

This chapter introduces rational expressions and operations with rational expressions. It also explores rational functions at a basic level by using a graphing calculator.

  • 9.

    Quadratic Equations and Quadratic Functions

This chapter continues the exploration of quadratics. Solving by graphing, completing the square, and the quadratic formula are all discovered. Imaginary numbers and complex roots of quadratics are introduced. Radical equations are also explored.

  • 10.

    Geometric Transformations

This chapter introduces geometric transformations. Translations, reflections, rotations, dilations, and composite transformations are all explored. The midpoint formula and the distance formula are used in the context of transformations.
