# Chapter 7: Many Terms Means Much Work

Difficulty Level: Advanced Created by: CK-12

Introduction

In this chapter you will learn what is meant by the term polynomial and how to do the basic operations of addition, subtraction and multiplication. Multiplication will apply the distributive property and will also include special products. You will also learn how to divide polynomials. To simplify the process of division, you will also learn the remainder and factor theorems for division of polynomials.

This chapter will also include the factorization of polynomials including common factors, factoring ax2+bx+c\begin{align*}ax^2+bx+c\end{align*} where a=1\begin{align*}a=1\end{align*} and ax2+bx+c\begin{align*}ax^2+bx+c\end{align*} where a1\begin{align*}a\ne1\end{align*} by using the decomposition method. Included in factoring will also be special cases. The process of factoring will be applied to solving quadratic equations and will be extended to include the factorization of cubic polynomials. The chapter will conclude with the graphing of polynomial functions.
