cell membrane

Lipid barrier that surrounds the cell; also known as the plasma membrane.

homeostasis

Ability of an organism to maintain stable internal conditions, such body temperature, regardless of outside conditions.

hydrophilic

Can combine with water (water-loving).

hydrophobic

Does not combine with water (water-fearing).

phospholipid

Lipid molecule with a hydrophilic (water-loving) head and two hydrophobic (water-hating) tails; makes up the cell membrane.
