What are different versions of blocks of the periodic table?
The blocks of the periodic table show how orbitals fill; they additionally group the elements in an efficient manner. The s-block is comprised of groups 1A and 2A, the p-block is comprised of the groups 3A through 8A, the d-block consists of the transition metals, and the f-block consists of the inner transition metals.
The periodic table allows people to group and define the 118 elements in an attempt to better understand and emphasize certain properties of elements. Blocks allow for this by highlighting the main functions of the periodic table. However, not all people agree with the current structure of the modern periodic table. In their attempts to classify the elements with their own forms of blocks, many scientists have created alternative periodic tables, all with different structures and classifications. For example, the Left Step Periodic Table classifies elements based on their orbitals and is highly popular among physicists. The Chemical Galaxy classifies chemical elements based on the cyclical nature of their characteristics. The Extended periodic table includes a g-block in order to account for hypothetical undiscovered elements.
