Doin’ The Wave

You see the lego wave of people dancing, but how would you accurately describe the movement. The best way to recreate the wave would be through wavelength.  How do you find the wavelength though? You use DeBroglie’s wave equation.

Basically this means, wavelength = planck’s constant/(mass)(velocity)

Let’s assume that the mass of the lego men is 30 grams, and that the velocity they are moving at is, 3x10-1 . With this information we can calculate that

wavelength =(6.6262  10-34 × J •  s)/30x.3

wavelength=7.3624444x10-35  m

Creative Application:

  1. Find the wavelength of a spring with mass 40 g and velocity of 3x103 .

  2. If you had the wavelength and mass and plancks constant how would you find velocity?
