Two important facts about Norway: the country is very far north, between 57° and 81°, so it is very cold, and it has a lot of petroleum. A look back through time will show you the geological reasons for these things.

Why It Matters

  • Spread out on a wall the geologic time scale is mostly Precambrian with bacteria for life.
  • Soft-bodied organisms, the Ediacaran, ruled for a long time.
  • Two mass extinctions wiped out most of Earth’s life after the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras.
  • The climate of Norway changed as ti moved through different climate belts.
  • Earth's geological timeline provides the relationships and timing of events in Earth's history.

  2. What is the relationship between seafloor spreading and sea level and why?
  3. How was petroleum produced in between Norway and Scotland during mid-Jurassic?
  4. What is the geologic history of the largest mountain range the world has ever known?
  5. How many meters is the geologic time scale on the wall and how much is human history?
