Solar eclipses occur when the new moon blocks the Sun from Earth. However, this can only happen when all three are lined up in the same plane. What is the name of this specific plane? How is it related to Earth’s orbit?

There are two parts to the Moon’s shadow, inner and outer. Name and describe both parts.

Note: Solar eclipses are either partial or total. Both are rare events, creating a few minutes of what appears to be night.
