Interacting galaxies - their gravitational fields are close enough to influence each other [Figure2]

Even though you’re young, no one lives forever. So you’ll just have to imagine the future when

  • Niagara Falls is just a river
  • The night sky contains an object almost as bright as the Sun
  • Total solar eclipses no longer happen
  • Earthlings reside in the galaxy Milkdromeda

With the link below, learn more about changes that will be taking place over the next several billion years. Then answer the following questions.

  1. What year was the Chernobyl nuclear disaster? How long is it likely to be before humans can safely go into the area? Is it likely that human memory will last that long?
  2. What is Milkdromeda? How will Milkdromeda come to be?
  3. Why will there be no total solar eclipses beyond 600 million years from now?
  4. Why will Niagara Falls be just a river in 52,000 years?
