you can tell by the tempature of it or you can tell by if it is a solid, liquid, or a gas. you can take a guess because if its a solid then the molecules are still moving but at a very slow pace. so the kinetic is basically refering to the movement. so just feel the tempature or check to see what kind of object it is.
