What do cows, cylinders, and volume all have in common? According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 36% of the people in the United States drink the recommended 2 to 3 glasses of milk per day. But how does the milk get from the farm to the store?

Why It Matters

A milk truck carries milk from dairy farms to processing facilities where the milk gets packaged so that it can be sold in stores. Milk trucks are a special type of tank truck. Their tanks are cylindrical in design, and the size of the cylinder directly impacts the amount of milk that can be transported.

Most milk trucks have a tank with a capacity of 4,000-5,000 gallons. Tank trucks in general can carry up to 9,000 gallons of liquid. Whether you are a farmer or a truck driver for a milk company, the volume of the cylinder on the milk truck directly impacts your business, money, and consumers.
