The aim of d3mobile.es is for students born between 1996 and 1998 all over the world to participate in a team championship that will reinforce their research capacity. They will be using equipment well known to all: mobile phones and computers. They will learn the basics of the photogrammetric technique with the help of one of their teachers and the free software they will be provided with. This methodology will allow them to build scaled tridimensional models of simple objects and it will only take them two afternoons of study to master it. Three mandatory exercises using specific free Internet programs will be carried out over the course of the Championship. The first exercise is oriented to training students whereas the remaining two will be subject to a grading process in order to grant the final award. 1st test This exercise aims at increasing the chances of winning the championship given that it is educational and self-assessing in nature. It will help students to familiarize themselves with the 3D modeling techniques with mobile phones they will be using for the next tests. This exercise will not be graded but achieving good results is crucial for the correct execution of the next two tests. 2nd Test The aim of the second test will be extracting the coordinates/measurements of different points of a standard object. The object in question will be available anywhere in the world. Students will have to construct a tri-dimensional model of the object and after carrying out the repetitions and trials they deem necessary, they will upload the requested numerical results to the Web. The measurements of the same points will be measured with the highest accuracy and precision at the Centro Español de Metrología (CEM). Those who achieve the highest quality of measurement will be awarded the highest scores. The chances of winning will depend on participants’ skills and rigor which will in turn lead to higher quality of the required measurements. 3rd Test Here teams will choose any object in their environment limited to a maximum size (detailed at the beginning of the test) and will have to construct the model of the set and carry out some measurements. Furthermore, they will have to geo-reference the 3D model following the instructions provided by the organizers and create a video of the model. Students will then submit three types of results in this exercise: some measurements carried out on the object, the GPS coordinates of the point at which they want to geo-reference the video of the 3D model and the YouTube link to the video (maximum length: 30 seconds), which will be automatically generated by the 123 Catch program ( the program itself uploads the video to YouTube).
