The classic American breakfast [Figure1]

On the day before a big test, your teacher tells you to sleep well and make sure not to skip breakfast.  Sleeping well is obvious since it will let you be more awake.  Have you ever wondered why you need a good breakfast to be ready?  It all has to do with the cellular respiration inside your body.

Creative Applications

  1. Have you ever skipped breakfast because you were running late?  How did you feel going to school that day?
  2. Review the equations for both types of respiration.  What thing does both types of respiration need to produce energy?
  3. Think about your typical breakfast.  What foods contain the item you answered in question 2?

  4. If you skip breakfast, where does the body go to for its source of energy?
