Have you ever heard of shattering glass with your voice?  Or ever heard of singing so loud that you can crack a house window? Many opera singers always dream of achieving this feat.  While it may seem like a myth for most people, it’s actually been done many times.  Take a look at this lady trying break a wine glass with her voice:

 

Creative Applications

  1. What must happen with the lady’s voice so that she could break the glass?
  2. Why did the lady’s pitch change slightly while singing in the high pitch voice?
  3. Why was the straw bouncing around inside the cup?
  4. Can you break the glass just by singing a higher and higher note? Why or why not?
