Average Velocity

The average distance over average time and what direction it is moving in

You just learned about the difference between speed, velocity, and average velocity, so you decide to take a road trip and apply what you learned. You are driving north, from Los Angeles towards San Francisco. For the first hour you drive at 50 MPH and for the next two hours you drive at 65 MPH.

Creative Applications

1. What is your speed 30 minutes into the trip? How can this be found? When would you need to know your speed?

2. What is your velocity 30 minutes into the trip? How can this be found? What is it useful for?

3. What is your average velocity for the trip? How can it be found? What is it useful for?
