Review of Long and Short Vowel Patterns

Mark the first vowel in each of these words with a \begin{align*}\mathrm{V}\end{align*}V. Then mark the next two letters, either \begin{align*}\mathrm{V}\end{align*}V or \begin{align*}\mathrm{C}\end{align*}C. If you get to the end of the word before you have marked three letters, use the tic-tac-toe sign to mark the end of the word:

\begin{align*}& \text{baby} &&\text{hobbies} && \text{monkey} && \text{white} && \text{grandfather} \\ & \quad vcv && \quad vcc && \quad vcc && \quad vcv && \quad vcc \\ & \text{follows} && \text{cutely} && \text{icing} && \text{pattern} && \text{home} \\ & \quad vcc && \quad vcv && \quad vcv && \quad vcc && \quad vcv \\ & \text{scene} && \text{yes } && \text{reddest} && \text{rid } && \text{watches} \\ & \quad vcv && \quad vcc\# && \quad vcc && cvc\# && \quad vcc \\ & \text{union} && \text{yesterday} && \text{hot} && \text{that} && \text{then} \\ & vcv && \quad vcc && cvc\# && \quad cvc\# && \quad cvc\# \\ & \text{ate} && \text{placing} && \text{ride} && \text{these} && \text{whole} \\ & vcv && vcv && vcv && vcv && vcv\end{align*}babyvcvfollowsvccscenevcvunionvcvatevcvhobbiesvcccutelyvcvyes vcc#yesterdayvccplacingvcvmonkeyvccicingvcvreddestvcchotcvc#ridevcvwhitevcvpatternvccrid cvc#thatcvc#thesevcvgrandfathervcchomevcvwatchesvccthencvc#wholevcv

Now in words ending VC# mark the letter in front of V either V or C.

4. Mark the first vowel in each of these words with a <v>. Then mark the next two letters, either <v> or <c>:
