Trig Functions

You can solve a right triangle using the trig functions if an angle and a side are given.  Trig Functions are used to find the measure of a side.

Sine, Cosine, and Tangent Functions

These trig functions are used to describe the relationships between the sides of a triangle.

The following mnemonic device is useful for remembering the trig functions: SOHCAHTOA

Sine = Opposite/Hypotenuse

Secant, Cosecant, and Cotangent Functions

These are other trig functions that are inversely related to sine, cosine, and tangent.

Secant = 1 / Cosine

Cosecant = 1 / Sine

Cotangent = 1 / Tangent

Special Property:

SinA*CscA = 1

CosA*SecA = 1

TanA*CotA = 1

REMEMBER: ALL TRIG FUNCTIONS CAN ONLY BE USED WITH RIGHT TRIANGLES

Inverse Trig Functions

*Inverse Trig Functions are not the same as the Secant ,Cosecant, and cotangent trig functions!*

Inverse Trig Functions are used to find the measure of an angle.

sinA = opposite/hypotenuse

A = sin-1(opposite/hypotenuse)

What can and inverse function be used for when it comes to connecting it back with regular trig functions?
