Ectotherms are cold-blooded in that they cannot raise their body temperature on their own. They alter their metabolic activities to some extent and use other strategies, such as behavior of moving in sun or shade, colder or warmer places. This is unlike endotherms, whose temperature is controlled from inside the body.
