Flexi Says: Cell death occurs in different ways. Apoptosis is a programmed cell death that occurs after a number of cell divisions. During this type of cell death, the cell is dismantled from within and its parts are packaged up and absorbed by neighboring cells for materials. When cells die due to disease, toxins, or injury, cell parts and substances may leak out from dying cells and cause inflammation in the surrounding tissue. Immune system cells may become activated to absorb cell materials and fight any pathogens that may leak from diseased cells.
