Flexi Says: The lion (Panthera leo) is an animal species in the cat family Felidae. The lion is an apex predator and carnivore tertiary consumer. Lions live in groups called prides. All the lions in the pride cooperate, though there is still serious competition among the males. Male lions work together to defend the other lions in the pride. Female lions work together to hunt. There are two recognized subspecies of lion, the African lion and the Asiatic lion.
