Flexi Says: Although most jellyfish have limited lifespans of 1-2 years, one species of jellyfish, Turritopsis dohrnii, has a remarkable capacity to become young polyps when their bodies wear out or undergo some trauma, by a process known as transdifferentiation. In this process, one type of specialized cell can become another type of specialized cell which enables the animal to go back to an earlier stage in its lifecycle. Hence, this species of jellyfish is considered to be immortal by biologists.
