Flexi Says: Some flatworms have very complicated lifecycles with many intermediate hosts. The main host in majority of them is a vertebrate. The intermediate hosts are mostly invertebrates that form a part of the vertebrate's diet. This makes it easy for the parasite to reach its main vertebrate host, where it can reproduce sexually. This might have been the possible reason for evolution of such complex life cycles in some parasitic flatworms.
