Flexi Says: The population of birds will be the lowest. This is because grasshoppers are primary consumers and insects are primary and secondary consumers. At the next level of the food chain, snakes are tertiary consumers who feed on rodents and other secondary consumers. Birds are quaternary consumers who consume snakes. Energy is passed up the food chain from one trophic level to the next. Less energy is available to organisms at each successive trophic level. Because there is less energy at higher trophic levels, there are usually fewer organisms as well. Organisms tend to be larger in size at higher trophic levels, but their smaller numbers still result in less biomass.
