Flexi Says: Organisms have a very wide range of life spans. Some microbes live for mere hours, while some individual trees live for thousands of years. Scientists have discovered even longer lifespans for some stranger types of organisms. Colonies of plants that share a root system have been found to live for tens of thousands of years. One famous aspen colony in the western U.S. shares a root system that is at least 80,000 years old! Endoliths are organisms such as fungi and bacteria that live inside rock. Scientists have recently found evidence that some of these organisms can live for millions of years, although more tests are needed to confirm this discovery.
