Flexi Says: The Sphynx breed of housecat is nearly hairless. The gene for hairlessness is recessive and appears to have originated by a natural mutation. Cat breeders became aware of this gene when a hairless kitten named Prune was born in 1966. Other hairless cats were soon discovered and bred together to produce hairless offspring. The Sphynx breed was produced by this artificial selection process over many generations.
