Flexi Says: Mendel is best known for his experiments with the pea plant Pisum sativum. He studied the inheritance of seven different features in peas, including plant height (tall or dwarf), flower color (purple or white), flower position (axial or terminal), seed color (green or yellow), seed shape (round or wrinkled), Pod shape (constricted or inflated) and Pod color (green or yellow). To do so, he first established pea lines with two different forms of a feature, such as tall vs. short height.
