Flexi Says: Waxes are esters of long-chain fatty acids and long-chain alcohols. Wax in a burning candle does not evaporate. Rather, it melts and is drawn up through the wick due to capillary action. Hydrocarbons in the molten wax are fuels that react with oxygen and produce flame of carbon dioxide (emits blue light), carbon monoxide and water vapor.
