Flexi Says: Evidence shows that we currently experiencing a mass extinction event that is being caused by human activity. The current rate of extinction is between 100 and 1,000 times higher than the pre-human background rate of extinction. Scientists call this the 6th mass extinction, or the Holocene extinction. Activities responsible for this mass extinction include habitat destruction due to land use, the introduction of invasive species, over-hunting and over-fishing, diseases, and the release of greenhouse gases by burning fossil fuels, meat production, forestry, and agriculture. These activities are changing climate and ecosystems faster than many species can adapt.
