Q: Why doesn't the earth or any other planets get closer to the sun because of its gravitational pull?

Flexi Says: The Sun's gravity always pulls the planets in the solar system towards itself. However, the planets move in circular orbits with a velocity great enough in the tangential direction (sideways) which keeps them from falling into the Sun.
