Flexi Says: Hard surfaces such as pavement and concrete prevent water from seeping into the soil and entering the aquifer. This lowers the water table over time. Some existing wells may not be deep enough to get water and as a result might run dry. Instead of sinking into the ground, water runs off of hard surfaces. This runoff goes into storm sewers that empty into streams, which can cause flooding. Additionally, this runoff washes pollutants off of city streets, which can enter and pollute natural waterways and water supplies.
