Flexi Says: The Appalachian plateau is primarily made of sedimentary rock. The Appalachian mountains were much taller when they were formed around 200 million years ago. As the mountains eroded over time, sediment was deposited near the base of the mountains. Thick layers of sediment became buried over time, and formed the layers of sedimentary rock that now make up the plateau.
