Flexi Says: Two biological methods used for extraction of metals are phytoextraction and bioloeaching. In phytoextraction, the plant are grown on low grade ore (contains lower amount of metals). Plants absorb metal ions through their roots and concentrate in their cells. These plants are then harvested and burnt. The ash formed contains higher concentration of the ore compared to source. This ash is further processed to obtain pure metal. Bioleaching is the method of extraction of metals from their ores using microorganisms.
