Flexi Says: The location of the north pole is in the Arctic Ocean. Most of the year, that part of the ocean is covered in thick sea ice. However, the extent of Arctic Ocean ice has been decreasing with global warming. The north pole is now usually free of ice in June and July. Large mammals species that live in the region include ringed seals, minke whales, humpback whales, bowhead whales, walruses, white beaked dolphin, and polar bears. A great variety of seabirds live in the region, including ivory gulls, kittiwakes, and dovekies. The ecosystem is supported by abundant phytoplankton, zooplankton, crustaceans, and fish.
