The best solutions to stop adding to the garbage patch are to reduce our use of plastics, particularly those that tend to be blown or washed into the ocean. This includes plastic bags, plastic cutlery, plastic drink bottles, plastic wrappers, and fishing line and nets. When those items are used, they should be disposed of carefully to ensure that they do not end up as trash in the ocean.
