Sedimentary rock layers can be weathered, and the resulting sediments can be deposited and buried to form new sedimentary rock. Metamorphic rock exposed to heat and/or pressure can become further altered to form another type of metamorphic rock before melting completely. Igneous rock exposed to a high degree of heat and/or pressure can melt and later recrystallize to form new igneous rock.
