Flexi Says: Scientists are still trying to understand whether Venus is geologically active. The lithosphere of Venus does not appear to be broken into tectonic plates, and there is no evidence for subduction. However, the surface of Venus is very difficult to observe due to its thick atmosphere. Recent evidence shows deformations in the lithosphere consistent with some type of geologic activity that causes areas of the lithosphere to move and change. Some scientists think that large amounts of water are necessary for the subduction of plates, such as occurs beneath Earth's oceans. None of the other inner planets show evidence of plate tectonics.
