Flexi Says: Photorespiration is a wasteful pathway that competes with the Calvin cycle. It occurs when the concentration of carbon dioxide is low and the concentration of oxygen is high. Plant starts to utilizes oxygen as a substrate of photosynthesis instead of carbon dioxide. Photorespiration occurs in plants where oxygen is added to RuBP instead of CO2.
