Natural Resources

Natural Resource Conservation

Study Tip
Conserve natural resources in the same manner a person would conserve money spending. Both are limited and valuable.

Modes of Alternate Transportation

As humans, we must act to preserve our natural resources so that those in developed countries can maintain their lifestyles in the future and so that those in developing countries can have the opportunity to use resources to improve their lifestyles.

Alternate Transportation produces fewer emissions. They include:

  • Walking
  • Carpooling
  • Public Transportation
  • Organizing a walk/bike to school event

Study Tip
The same way a person may cast a shadow over another person when they stand under the sun, planets or celestial bodies that have aligned themselves cast shadows over one another as well.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

The phrase Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is a good guide for being less wasteful

  • Use less water at home
  • Turn off lights in empty rooms
  • Buy less things with excess packaging
  • Try to use your things before buying new things
  • If you don’t want something anymore, try to pass it on to someone else
  • Recycling is important because it takes much less energy to recycle something than it does to generate something new

Gardening

Gardening can help reduce the amount of CO₂ in the air. You can:

  • Plant trees to replace those that have been cut down
  • Start a compost bin at your house or school
Concept Check
  • Be able to define alternate transportation, identify different modes of it, and explain why it is important.
  • Differentiate between recycling, reducing, and reusing, and give examples of all three.
  • Be able to explain the benefits of gardening and give different gardening examples that help the environment.
